Scarecrow in your garden

Ask yourself this question which might seem a little silly. Is there a scarecrow in my garden?

You might be asking yourself what is this guy talking about? I don't have a garden much less a scarecrow! I am getting this serious question from God's word from the life and book of Jeremiah.

Here is what the garden and scarecrow means. The garden stands for your precious life and the scarecrow pictures anything (idols) that are worthless that are imbedded inside.

(Jeremiah 10:5) proclaims,"Like scarecrows in a cucumber patch, their idols cannot speak. They must be carried because they cannot walk. Do not fear them for they can do no harm, and they cannot do any good."

The people in Jeremiah's time aloud themselves to adopt the customs and the ways of the nations ultimately falling into idolatry and many, many more wicked practices ex. worshipping statues. They aloud themselves to build scarecrows in their garden. Honestly today, it is not much different. Actually, the truth is there is a lot more "statues" to worship today than back hundreds or thousands of years ago.

God makes evident how absolutely foolish this is and how much hatred He has for it. God also goes into detail on how these worthless idols are made by human hands (Jeremiah 10:3, Jeremiah 10:9) Following that God says as well, they are instructed or controlled by these idols.

I know what you are already thinking. You are thinking that's super crazy and that's not me at all! Well the statues we have today just to name a few are as follows: facebook, twitter, cell phones, sports (playing or watching) money, and relationships. If more of our thoughts, time, energy, and efforts are going into these things than in our relationship with Jesus Christ then we are committing the same thing as the people in Jeremiah's time were committing which is idolizing created things instead of the Creator. "They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen." ( Romans 1:25) These things are originally good things that God created and can be used for His glory, but once they have passed His position in our lives they can turn harmful mentally, emotionally, physically and for sure spiritually and we have officially built a scarecrow.

To prevent from building these scarecrows we need to continually stay praying, reading God's word, examining ourselves and just loving Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. (Mark 12:30)

Matthew 6:21 Jesus states "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also"

So I urge you brothers and sisters to look and examine yourselves with me. Pray also that God would reaveal if there is anything that is consuming any part of our lives that He isn't (and He will) and may He burn it out of us by the power of the Holy Spirit inside us and put it in it's rightful place.
